1973 Talman Yacht Menemsha-24

A 24-foot auxiliary sloop built in 1973 by Talman Yacht, this fiberglass sloop was acquired and underwent complete restoration, stripped to bare hull and refinished throughout. The original mahogany trim was replaced with teak, including the cockpit combings, main hatch, toe rails, and cockpit grating. A Lewmar forward-opening hatch provides cabin access.

The powerplant is a Yanmar 13-horsepower diesel engine with new wiring, gauges, and drive train installed during the restoration. The boat carries a new mainsail and a new roller-furling, self-tacking jib, both with custom sail covers. Sails and engine deliver a cruising speed of 4 knots and a maximum speed of 6 knots.

Below, the cabin features a teak and holly sole and newly replaced berth cushions. Deck accommodations include a replaced cockpit cushion set. A Ritchie compass and newly installed depth sounder provide navigation aids. Chainplates have been replaced and are stainless steel. The ground tackle consists of a new Danforth anchor with rode, and the boat maintains an active mooring with a 500-pound mushroom, chain, nylon rode, and bridle.

The outfit includes nylon half-inch dock lines, fenders with fender board, a stainless steel telescoping boat hook with attachments, and a West Marine inflatable dinghy. The boat has an 8-foot beam and carries all the equipment needed for cruising.
