1974 Force Hudson 50

ZERO is a 1974 Force Hudson 50, a 50-foot fiberglass sailing yacht designed by naval architect William Garden. This bluewater cruiser was comprehensively rebuilt and refitted over the past decade, with major structural work including a complete deck core replacement with marine-grade plywood completed in 2015. The boat carries an Isuzu Westerbeke 80N diesel engine (installed 2003, with refreshed mounts and transmission in 2018) paired with a 3.2-kilowatt generator and modern propulsion systems.

The yacht accommodates two spacious cabins, each with its own head, plus additional sleeping capacity throughout. The galley features a three-burner Princess stove with oven, large refrigeration including two independent 45-liter units, ceramic sink, and substantial counter and storage space. A Dickinson diesel heater provides heating. Water systems include dual 150-gallon tanks with filtration and hot water from an 11-gallon Force 10 heater; dual 150-gallon diesel tanks support extended cruising; and an 85-gallon holding tank manages waste.

Navigation and safety are comprehensively equipped with B&G electronics including dual chartplotters (9-inch and 7-inch displays), autopilot with remote, sonar, radar, AIS transceiver, and multiple speed and depth transducers. VHF radio, Ritchie compass, and Iridium satphone antenna complete the suite. Electrical systems feature a 1,350-ampere-hour house battery bank (2023) and 225-ampere-hour starter battery (2021), dual alternators, lithium-ready charger, 2,000-watt inverter, and independent solar and wind generation totaling 1,750 watts with dedicated controllers.

The rig includes standing and running rigging renewed in 2014, with all winches replaced as self-tailing units in 2019. Deck gear includes a 12-volt electric windlass, three anchors with chain and rode, washdown pump, and custom hard dodger with integrated lighting and solar panels. Six sails are aboard—mainsail, mizzen, staysail, two genoas, and yankee—all in fair condition; the spinnaker requires repair. Two outboards (10-hp and 15-hp Evinrude) are included.
