The El Capitan is a 64-foot fiberglass sportfisher built by Blanchard with a hull designed by Ed Monk Jr. Twin Cummins diesel engines rated at 810 horsepower provide cruising at 10 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots. The boat carries 1,300 gallons of fuel and 240 gallons of fresh water. A 33-kilowatt Norpro diesel generator powers the electrical systems alongside a comprehensive battery setup for engines, generator start, and DC electronics.
The main cabin features the wheelhouse forward with an enclosed bridge and crow's nest above. The galley sits mid-cabin with a two-burner flattop, two-burner cooktop, convection oven, microwave, double stainless steel sink, refrigerator, and can cooler. Aft of the galley is a bunk room with five crew berths and access to 18 additional passenger bunks below deck, along with two refrigerators and two freezers. The main deck includes four heads, multiple seating booths, and a rear entry to the cabin. An upper deck aft of the wheelhouse is accessible by ladder, with a live bait tank on the stern.
The twin live wells can hold approximately 120 scoops of bait. A large fish hold is built into the stern below deck with spray brine capability and powered by a 5-horsepower compressor and 3-horsepower circulation pump. Washdown is provided by a 3-horsepower 220-volt pump. Ground tackle includes a Bruce anchor, 150 feet of chain, and 900 feet of line.
Electronics include dual VHF radios with DSC, JRC radar, Furuno GPS and sonar, Garmin chart plotter, Wagner Tiller autopilot, depth sounder, and ICOM Single Side Band radio. Recent work includes a new water heater, fresh water pump, heat exchanger on the starboard main engine, and replacement gearbox coolers. The twin Cummins engines were installed new in 2007.
