This 42-foot William Garden Porpoise was designed by the renowned naval architect and built by master shipwright Pat Sullivan in Victoria, B.C. in 1975. The hull is strip-planked red cedar over steamed and laminated oak frames, fastened with galvanized nails. She is powered by a Perkins 4-236 four-cylinder 85-horsepower diesel engine and cruises at 6 knots with a top speed of 8 knots. The boat carries six 6-volt house batteries and a 12-volt starter battery, charged by a Xantrex Freedom Marine 2500-watt charger.
On deck, Blackbeard II offers wide open teak deck space adjoining a large cockpit, suitable for both two-person handling and family cruising. The teak decks remain in excellent condition. A hydraulic windlass manages a 60-pound CQR anchor with 200 feet of chain and rode, backed by a 45-pound CQR with 50 feet of chain and rode. Her sail plan includes a furling genoa, staysail, main, mizzen, and asymmetrical spinnaker, all in very good condition and made by PT Sails.
Below decks, the interior is open and bright with abundant natural light from large house side windows. The layout centers on a spacious salon with an L-shaped settee and dining table, two large quarter berths aft, and a navigation station. The galley features a Force-10 propane three-burner stove with oven, Pacific Refrigeration freezer and refrigerator, stainless steel sink, and an Aqua Marine 18-gallon-per-hour reverse-osmosis water maker system. Hot and cold pressure water serve the galley and head.
Extensive recent mechanical and structural work includes a new engine heat exchanger, transmission heat exchanger, house batteries, engine exhaust system, thru-hull fittings, engine strainer, water pump, fuel injectors and injector pump, starter motor, engine mounts, PSS dripless shaft seal, and cutlass bearing. The keel bolts were inspected and the Wallas diesel cabin heater was rebuilt. Masts were re-varnished in 2024, and the bottom was last painted in March 2025 with engine service completed the same month. Electronics include a Garmin GPSMap 741xs chart plotter with radar and GPS, Raymarine depth sounder and wind instruments, VHF radios, and a Qualcomm Globalstar satellite phone.
