BACCARA is a 1977 Hinckley Sou'wester Yawl, a 50-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built to exacting standards. The yawl rig handles easily for single-handed sailing or a cruising couple, while her shoal draft with a solid bronze centerboard and ICW rig allow her to navigate shallow waters. Powered by a naturally aspirated Ford Lehman diesel of 90 horsepower, she cruises at 7.5 knots and can cover approximately 1,400 nautical miles on fuel.
The three-cabin, two-head layout follows the desirable B General Arrangement. The owner's stateroom has a double berth with an ensuite head. An L-shaped navigation station with a swivel chair serves as workspace for navigation and administrative work. Ample storage throughout suits extended cruising. The cockpit is spacious enough for a group and its lockers accommodate full sail inventory and extended cruising gear.
The boat features unusually good natural ventilation through Dorade vents and opening hatches, supplemented by reverse-cycle air-conditioning powered by an 8 kilowatt generator. In 2014, the topsides were stripped, faired, and refinished by Hodgdon Yachts. Between 2019 and 2021, all hardware on the waterways, trunk cabin, and cockpit was removed, refinished, and re-bedded. The boat winters in heated inside storage and has been maintained to a high standard since new.
