This 1978 Monk 38 is a fiberglass trawler built on a classic design, measuring 38 feet in length with a 13-foot beam. The hull features a skeg-protected prop and an up-swept, flared bow designed to deliver a dry ride in rough conditions. Power comes from a single 128-horsepower Ford diesel engine. High bulwarks and tall mahogany-topped rails provide security and traditional styling on deck.
The interior combines functionality with traditional aesthetics. The main cabin layout places the lower helm to starboard with the salon opposite to port, galley to starboard, and companionways fore and aft providing access to sleeping quarters. Plasteak hardwood floors run throughout, paired with formica walls and overhead accents. Newer sliding windows offer abundant natural light, views, and airflow. The boat includes two heads and is designed for extended cruising and live-aboard use.
Recent work spans 2024 and 2025, with significant attention to propulsion and steering systems. The shaft was pulled and inspected in 2024, with new shaft bearings and packing installed. The propeller has been balanced, straightened, and reconditioned. Steering received a new hydraulic cylinder and fresh lines with new seals. The rudder post gained a new lower bushing and teflon packing. New through-transom bolts secure the swim platform, bedded with 3M 4200 sealant. The transom interior and rudder compartment received fresh paint, and a new swim platform was fitted. Bottom paint was applied in both 2024 and 2025.
Additional recent upgrades include a new raw water pump, rebuilt fuel injectors, new valve cover gasket, engine mounts, shaft key, forward bow thruster, and automated discharge fire suppression in the engine room. New bonding wires connect the tanks and filler necks. A custom bimini top installed in 2022 provides sun protection on deck. The engine and generator—the latter showing 212 hours—were serviced this year. The sale includes a new dinghy with electric motor and spare parts and tools for the boat.
