This 1979 Amel Mango is a 52-foot ketch built on the legendary Amel hull design, comprehensively rebuilt over two decades into a capable bluewater passagemaker. The core strength of the design—robust construction, seakindly motion, and proven offshore performance—has been preserved and enhanced through systematic structural reinforcement, including Sapele overlay and fresh tabbing on bulkheads. The protected center cockpit, well-balanced ketch rig, and deep bulwarks reflect Amel's conservative engineering approach to heavy-weather sailing.
Below decks, the yacht accommodates a two-cabin layout with a custom salon table, fully rebuilt galley featuring Corian countertops and modern refrigeration, new heads and plumbing, and carefully executed mahogany joinery throughout. The forward stateroom offers two generous berths with substantial storage; the aft cabin provides a private double berth with settee and desk. Additional pilot and sea berths in the salon and passageway extend sleeping capacity. Climate control is provided by three air-conditioning and reverse-cycle heat units, with Hella fans throughout.
Systems throughout have been renewed or upgraded to ABYC standards: complete rewiring with modern Victron power management, a remanufactured Perkins 4-236 diesel with feathering propeller, Mase 7.9kw generator, bow thruster, and extensive battery and charger upgrades completed in 2025. The rig features aluminum masts with standing and running rigging replaced in 2020, electric halyard winch, headsail furlers, and low-friction track systems. A full offshore sail inventory includes mainsail and mizzen with recent overhauls, multiple headsails, spinnakers, and storm canvas. Navigation electronics comprise a complete Furuno suite with dual chartplotters, radar, and autopilot; dual chart stations provide redundancy. Deck gear includes electric anchor windlass with Rocna 40 anchor and chain, cockpit shower, and elevated stainless lifelines. Safety equipment includes liferaft, drogue, ditch bag, and rigging cutters.
