1979 Rafiki 35

This 35-foot sailing yacht was built in 1979 with a fiberglass hull and features a classical design suited to both coastal and offshore cruising. The boat carries a spoon bow with graceful sheer, rounded transom, and a modern low-profile cabin trunk that keeps clean deck lines and provides good access to a spacious aft cockpit.

The yacht is rigged as a full cutter with an aluminum painted mast and boom on a single-spreader, deck-stepped configuration. The mainsail has full-length battens and slab reefing. Standing rigging is stainless steel 1x19 wire with swaged terminals and Sta-Lok fittings at the runners, secured with chromed bronze turnbuckles. The mast was refurbished and standing rigging reported new in 2015. Deck gear includes Barlow two-speed winches throughout—#27s for headsails, #20 and #18 house-top winches, #18 mast winches, and a Barlow 10E boom winch for reefing. A mid-boom traveler, turning blocks, fairleads, and quality cleats round out the sail-handling system.

Below deck, light and ventilation are abundant through multiple deck hatches and ten opening bronze portlights. Safety features include double lifelines, full bow and stern rails, grab rails, a surrounding bulwark, and wrap-around cockpit seating with teak grating. Power comes from a rebuilt 1999 Volvo three-cylinder freshwater-cooled diesel of 28 horsepower, providing dependable auxiliary propulsion. The boat cruises at 6 knots and has a maximum speed of 75 knots under sail.
