The 1979 Sabre 28-2 is a classic cruising sailboat built from fiberglass with a reputation for solid construction and responsive sailing. At 28.5 feet long with a 9.17-foot beam, she is powered by an original Volvo 12-horsepower diesel engine. The spacious cockpit seats five and features wheel steering, deep lockers for gear storage, and replaced cushions. Four winches, a lazy jack system, topping lift, and roller furling round out the deck hardware.
Below deck, the single cabin includes a 5-berth layout with 6 feet of headroom, a large settee, practical galley with a 2-burner alcohol stove, and an enclosed marine head with shower. Three onboard batteries provide electrical power. The boat was professionally stored on the hard for three seasons, and has spent its history in freshwater, sailing Lake Ontario and Lake Winnipesaukee.
Notable upgrades include all new winches installed in 2022, a new vang strut also added in 2022, and recently replaced stereo speakers. The mainsail inventory consists of a 1994 Haarstick mainsail with full battens in very good condition and a 1990 Hild 150% genoa with furling, also in very good condition. Original sails from 1979 are included as backups and are in fair condition. The boat comes equipped with a mainsheet traveler and lazy jack system for ease of sail handling.
