1979 Searunner 37

A 1979 Searunner 37 trimaran designed by multihull legend Jim Brown and built in California. This boat excels where conventional cruisers cannot: with the centreboard retracted, she draws just 0.8 metres, allowing access to remote anchorages, narrow reef gaps, and mangrove waterways beyond the reach of deeper-hulled boats. At five tons displacement, she's remarkably easy to handle under sail—forces remain manageable and all control lines run to the central cockpit within easy reach of the helm. Hydraulic wheel steering feeds into an integrated electric-hydraulic autopilot, making single-handed sailing practical. The cutter rig with roller-furling jib and staysail, plus a fully battened mainsail with lazy jacks, performs well across all wind angles.

The layout spreads across two cabins: forward of the mast sits a double berth, single berth, and spacious head with shower; aft of the central cockpit lies another double berth, galley, navigation area, and engine access. Wide decks throughout provide room for tenders, kayaks, and deck activities. A Yanmar 3GM30F diesel with 2,250 hours drives her to six knots cruising and seven knots maximum. Power systems include 100 Amp-hour LiFePO4 house batteries, a 12V Danfoss refrigerator, Echotec 240 watermaker, and nine solar panels. Electronics comprise Lowrance sonar with tripleshot transducer, Garmin InReach satcom, AIS transceiver, wind instruments, and autopilot integration via NMEA2000 network broadcasting to tablets and laptops.

Hull and deck are plywood-epoxy with fibreglass, with the mast replaced approximately twelve years ago. An Autostream feathering propeller on shaft drive, plus twin Yamaha Enduro 15 outboards and a Parsun 3HP, support dinghy operations. Fuel capacity is 77 litres, water 160 litres. She carries a Highfield ultralight 340 tender and substantial ground tackle—Super Sarca anchor with Maxwell windlass. The boat was last antifouled and serviced in May 2026 and has been in continuous cruising use since acquisition in 2017.
