The Cal 39 Mark II is a 39-foot fiberglass sloop built in 1980, designed as a capable cruising and offshore sailboat. The hull features a white gelcoat finish with blue boottop and cove stripe, while the deck is gray and white fiberglass with non-skid surface. The bottom was stripped to gelcoat, primed with Interlux Interprotect, and painted with 2025 bottom paint. Varnished teak trim runs the exterior, and the boat is fitted with a fin keel and spade rudder, along with dual anchor rollers and stainless steel double lifelines with gates and welded stem and stern rails.
Power comes from a Beta 43-horsepower diesel four-cylinder engine installed in 2025 with 1–2 hours of running time. The engine drives through a Twin Disc transmission and Martec two-bladed folding propeller. Recent mechanical work includes a new stainless steel shaft with new cutlass bearings, new Racor fuel filter and fuel lines, new exhaust system with water-lift muffler, and new raw water hoses. The fuel tank was replaced in 2015 with an aluminum tank and holds 52 gallons; water capacity is approximately 50 gallons across two tanks, and there is a 6-gallon hot water heater plus a holding tank for waste.
Accommodation includes an oiled teak interior with a varnished teak and holly sole. The layout features forward vee berths with filler and a bureau to port, a large double berth/settee to starboard in the main salon with port settee convertible to a double, a navigation table with quarter berth aft to starboard, and a U-shaped galley to port with double stainless steel sinks and new Delta faucet. The galley is equipped with a new Eno LPG two-burner stove and oven, 12-volt refrigerator, and microwave. A manual head discharges to the holding tank. A 2025 Eberspächer diesel heater with vents in the salon, head, and vee berth provides heating.
Electrical systems are 12-volt and 110-volt with a 170-amp alternator, two 200-amp hour Dakota lithium house batteries and 135-amp hour lithium starting battery installed in 2023, plus LED lighting throughout. A Victron inverter, isolation transformer, and battery monitor support the systems. Navigation and electronics include a 2023 Garmin radar, 2016 Garmin chartplotter with depth and AIS updated in 2024, 2010 Raymarine depth/speed/wind, Autohelm 4000 autopilot, Standard Horizon VHF, and Galaxy binnacle compass; entertainment includes stereo with Bluetooth and TV/DVD player. Sails were inspected and cleaned in 2024–2025, with all running rigging renewed in 2024 and standing rigging inspected the same year. The rig includes Barient winches, a Harken roller fur
