The 1980 Grand Banks 42 Classic is a substantial trawler built on a fiberglass hull with a beam of 13.58 feet. Twin Ford Lehman diesel engines—each 120 horsepower, inline six-cylinder, fresh water cooled—were rebuilt in 2014 and have approximately 1,000 hours since overhaul. The yacht cruises comfortably at 8 knots burning about 4.25 gallons per hour total. A 600-gallon fuel capacity and Borg Warner twin-disc transmissions with 2.03:1 reduction support extended cruising. The exterior features white gelcoat topsides with a black Awlgrip boot-top and blue bottom paint. Bronze seacocks with intake strainers protect all through-hull fittings. Teak decking on the swim platform, transom, cap rails, and safety rails has been complemented by light tan Awlgrip non-skid applied to the side decks, bridge, and cockpit. An aluminum mast with boom folds to reduce height to 14 feet; the mast serves as a radome mount and can be raised to approximately 22 feet 7 inches.
The accommodation plan includes a fore cabin with a large queen berth and an aft cabin with a double berth offset to port and a vanity desk on the port side. Both cabins are ensuite with heads featuring manual Raritan seawater toilets, teak-grated showers, and cultured marble vanities. The main salon showcases varnished teak interior with satin finish, teak parquet sole protected by removable custom carpet, and an L-shaped settee with dinette. A lower helm station to starboard contains a teak-spoked wheel, three-section windshield with opening center section, and full engine instrumentation. The galley, located port side, features a Dickinson three-burner gas stove with oven, microwave, dual-voltage refrigerator and freezer, icemaker, and pressure hot and cold water service.
Systems include a Northern Lights 6-kilowatt generator with approximately 4,500 hours, Cruisaire reverse-cycle air conditioning in three zones, 265 gallons fresh water capacity, and a 50-gallon holding tank with macerator. Electrical systems comprise 12-volt DC and 120-volt AC shore power with house and start battery banks, a 40-amp battery charger installed in 2018, and LED lighting throughout. Electronics are duplicated at both helm stations: two Garmin 740S chartplotters, two Garmin 942XS radar units installed in 2018, Raymarine 7002 autopilot with new sensor, and standard VHF radios. An Ideal electric anchor windlass, Danforth and claw-type anchors, and a 9-foot Zodiac with 6-horsepower Yamaha outboard complete the inventory.
Recent refits include new engine room blowers and battery charger in 2018, a new oil cooler, cutlass and rudder
