This 1980 Ocean Alexander 40 Double Cabin is a fiberglass trawler built to the solid standards of that era. With a semi-displacement hull, hard chines, and long keel, the boat cruises steadily at 7 to 8 knots on its 120-horsepower Ford Lehman diesel. The engine was rebuilt in 2018 and has 787 hours since the rebuild. A bow thruster and dual helm hydraulic steering provide good handling characteristics. The spacious engine room offers full access for maintenance.
The interior follows the classic two-stateroom layout with a walkaround queen berth in the aft cabin and galley positioned to starboard in the salon. The cabin features extensive teak woodwork throughout. Port and starboard salon doors open to the deck, and a lower helm station is standard. Two heads with electric Vacuflush toilets serve the accommodations.
Recent work includes new teak deck replacement with Awlgrip non-skid (2023), cabin top and superstructure repainted in Awlgrip (2024), and a new flybridge bimini canvas (2024). The cutlass bearing and packing were renewed in 2023. Power systems include a 4-kilowatt Onan generator, 300 watts of solar panels, a 20-gallon-per-hour watermaker, and an Xantrex inverter-charger. A 16,000-BTU air conditioning unit cools the interior. Two 200-gallon diesel tanks and two 50-gallon water tanks provide extended cruising range. Navigation electronics consist of a Garmin 176C chartplotter with inside and flybridge stations, VHF radio, and a serviced Comnav hydraulic autopilot. An electric anchor windlass, 65-pound Delta anchor, and tender with 15-horsepower outboard complete the equipment package.
