The Shannon 28 is a proven cruising design with a solid fiberglass hull, aluminum spars, and a 1980 build that has been maintained and upgraded consistently over decades. At 28 feet on deck with a 9.5-foot beam and 4.5-foot draft, the boat balances seaworthiness with manageable handling. A 2006 Yanmar 2YM15 diesel with approximately 1,260 hours powers the yacht, supported by a modern electrical system that was substantially rewired in 2018, including LED lighting throughout, solar panels, gelcell batteries, and multiple USB receptacles.
The layout follows Shannon's "C" configuration, designed for comfortable passagemaking. The main salon features port and starboard settees that extend into single berths, a spacious quarter berth to port aft, and a teak drop-leaf dining table. Forward is a dedicated head with a Raritan system offering overboard or holding tank options. The galley sits to starboard and includes a Force 10 two-burner LPG range with oven, a pressurized hot and cold water system, and a high-capacity icebox with 12V refrigeration. Teak and holly cabin sole, solid teak oiling throughout, and abundant storage define the interior. A Dickenson LPG heater provides cabin warmth.
The boat carries substantial working equipment: a Simrad NSS9 Evo3 chartplotter with 4G radar overlay, Raymarine autopilot, and ST60 wind and depth instruments. Deck gear includes Andersen self-tailing winches, a Harken roller furler, and standing rigging renewed in 2015 with recent updates to intermediate checks and main uppers. Sails include a newer Genoa, a Doyle mainsail, a Yankee jib, and a storm trysail. Ground tackle consists of a Rocna primary anchor and Bruce secondary with modern rode. Recent additions include new forward hatch, Sunbrella covers, and cockpit shower with hot and cold water.
