This 1986 Nor'Sea 27 is a fiberglass blue water cruiser designed by Lyle Hess, built solid and maintained throughout her years. The boat has circumnavigated once and carries the systems and equipment needed for extended offshore voyaging. She is powered by a Yanmar 2GM20 diesel with 2200 hours, recently serviced and running well, burning half a gallon per hour from a 20-gallon tank.
The yacht accommodates two cabins and one head, arranged for comfortable cruising. A Manual Monitor wind vane rudder system is installed, paired with spares and extra vanes on hand. The boat carries a full complement of sails: cruising mainsail with triple reefs, working jib, drifter, and storm jib with reefs, along with halyards, sheets, and spare rigging throughout.
Electronics include a B&G V7 chart plotter, Raymarine i50 depth sounder, Ritchie compass, Raymarine TP32 autopilot, Icom M502 VHF, handheld GPS and VHF, and an EPIRB. Ground tackle consists of a 35-pound CQR anchor on bow roller with 200 feet of 5/16-inch chain, a 35-pound fisherman anchor with chain and rode, a 12-pound navy anchor, a six-diameter sea anchor, and a chain snubber. An 85-watt solar panel, two 105-amp-hour AGM batteries, and a 1100-watt inverter support the electrical system, with LED lighting throughout. The yacht also includes a bronze manual windlass, five bronze winches, canvas covers and bimini, full USCG safety gear, and offshore life vests with harnesses. A major refit was completed in 2018.
