1980 Shannon Ketch

The 1980 Shannon 38 ketch is a fiberglass sailing yacht built for strength and sea-keeping ability in rough conditions. At 38 feet long with an 11.5-foot beam, this ketch carries a substantial rig of anodized aluminum masts with rod bobstay and twin headstays in stainless steel. The sail plan includes mainsail with reef points, genoa on roller furling, mizzen, staysail, and yankee jib, managed by a full complement of Lewmar self-tailing winches ranging from #8 to #48. Ground tackle consists of a 45-pound CQR anchor with chain and a second anchor with mixed chain and rope, both controlled by an anchor windlass with remote.

Below deck, the accommodation is thoughtfully arranged around a generous main salon with a centerline teak dining table that seats six and converts to a navigation center aft with built-in electronics console and chart storage. Forward is a double V-berth adjacent to the head with shower. The main salon offers two pull-out settee berths, a pilot berth to port, and substantial locker and drawer storage. A full hanging locker and shelf storage provide additional cabin space. The galley features twin stainless sinks, three-burner stove with oven, and insulated refrigerator and freezer. The boat carries 120 gallons of fresh water across three tanks, a six-gallon water heater, and a 60-gallon fuel tank supplying a 50 HP Perkins 4-108 diesel engine.

Electronics include radar, VHF radio, GPS, wind indicator, boat speed, and depth sounder. The electrical system runs on 110-volt AC and 12-volt DC with four batteries, a wind generator, and inverter. Two hatches and twelve bronze opening portlights with fans provide ventilation. Deck features include full cockpit dodger and awning, cockpit cushions and table, seawater deck wash down, spreader-mounted deck flood lights, boarding ladder, and four life jackets. The boat requires restoration work to return to full condition.
