The Gulfstar 44 Mk II is a center-cockpit cruising yacht built in 1981 with a solid fiberglass hull and designed to handle serious offshore passage-making. At 44 feet with a 13-foot beam and drawing 5 feet 6 inches, she combines seaworthiness with manageable proportions. The hull has been verified sound through infrared imaging with no water intrusion, delamination, or blistering. A Perkins Perama M60 diesel engine (60 hp) was professionally rebuilt in 2024 with new injectors, gaskets, and fuel system components; estimated total engine hours are under 2,000. The boat carries bow and stern thrusters and an electric windlass (installed 2023).
The rig underwent a comprehensive overhaul completed in late 2025, with all standing rigging replaced in 316 stainless, spreaders rebuilt, and the mast resteppped with new wiring. Running rigging has been progressively updated since 2021. The main features in-boom furling (2012), and both the genoa furler and hood drum were rebuilt or replaced in 2024. The mainsail and genoa are in good condition, and the gennaker remains lightly used. A spacious cockpit sits amidships with an Edson pedestal steering system and large self-tailing winches.
Below deck, the yacht sleeps six across two full cabins—an aft master with king berth and private head, and a forward cabin with V-berth and private head, plus settee berth. Headroom exceeds 6 feet 4 inches throughout. Recent plumbing work (2024–2025) includes new bronze through-hulls, complete blackwater and greywater systems, and two new electric heads; freshwater capacity is 160 gallons. The galley includes a propane stove and oven plus a large refrigerator and separate freezer. Teak and holly sole runs throughout.
Navigation and electrical systems are well-equipped: dual VHF, Orca Core 2 plotter, NAC3 autopilot with Precision 9 compass, B&G DST810 transducer, NMEA 2000 network, and AIS capability. Power comes from 600W solar panels (dual controllers), 440 AMP house bank, and a 2000W inverter; Starlink Mini is installed. Ground tackle includes a Rocna 55-pound anchor with 240 feet of chain, plus CQR and Danforth backups. A 10-foot Highfield dinghy with 9.8 hp Tohatsu outboard and spare 6 hp Tohatsu are included, as is an auxiliary gasoline generator. Dodger and bimini canvas are serviceable though the dodger eisenglass requires replacement.
