RETREIVER is a 1981 Hinckley Bermuda 40 MKIII sloop built in Southwest Harbor, Maine. The boat features the distinctive lines characteristic of Hinckley design, with a sloop-rigged hull opening to a spacious cockpit. The traveler track sits forward of the companionway, keeping running rigging clear of the working deck. A fully battened 2018 Evolution mainsail, 140 furling genoa, and blue/red cruising spinnaker comprise the sail plan. The hull is finished with a traditional gold cove stripe and white boot stripe, recently painted with Awl-grip, with bottom paint applied in April 2026.
Below deck, the traditional interior centers on a salon with pilot berths to port and starboard and convertible settees. The teak and holly sole throughout pairs with varnished teak railings, companionway boards, and cockpit coaming. A forward V-berth with mahogany sheathing connects to the anchor locker. The galley features a gimballed Shipmate propane stove with removable insert, double-bowl sink, and outboard storage. A wet head with manual Wilcox-Crittenden toilet and Lectra-san waste treatment system completes the accommodation spaces.
The yacht is powered by a 1980 Westerbeke 40 hp diesel engine with 1,275 hours. Recent mechanical work includes 2026 engine service with oil, filter, and impeller replacement, zinc anode renewal, centerboard worm gear lubrication, and RACOR fuel/water separator replacement. A pressurized fresh water system, sump pump, and bilge pump support operations. The electrical system runs dual 12-volt banks with separate engine starting and house battery circuits, 100-amp alternator with automatic regulator, and circuit breaker panel.
Deck equipment includes an electric windlass with foot switch and Lewmar stainless claw anchor on roller, both replaced in 2019. Teak cockpit grate from 2020, new vinyl cockpit cushions from 2019, and freshly varnished teak throughout from 2026 support regular use. A Garmin MFD sits on the original Ritchie compass binnacle with Barient 28 self-tailing winches. The boat carries dodger and bimini, life jackets, fenders, and lines, plus a new 2-blade folding prop ready for installation.
