This 1981 Island Trader 46 is a classic motor yacht designed by Floyd Ayers. The fiberglass hull measures 46 feet in length with a 15-foot beam, and the boat is powered by a single Ford Lehman 120-horsepower diesel engine. The design bridges traditional sailboat styling with practical trawler capability, offering comfortable cruising characteristics.
The accommodation plan includes two cabins and two heads, with the master suite providing a spacious owner's quarters. The boat features extensive storage throughout and is well-suited for extended cruising and liveaboard use. A Beta Marine 10kW generator provides shore power independence, and onboard systems include a watermaker, reverse-cycle air conditioning and heating, a washing machine, and modern navigation equipment including a Raymarine Axiom+ chartplotter and Quantum 2 Doppler radar.
Significant structural work was completed in 2017, including a new core deck, rebuilt transom, and fresh barrier coat with two applications of Interlux Micron CSC hull paint. The bowsprit was fully rebuilt in 2022, and standing and running rigging were replaced in 2017. All exterior brightwork has been refinished with a minimum of twelve coats of Epiphanes High Gloss varnish. The Ford Lehman engine was overhauled at 3,250 hours and currently shows 4,600 hours. The propeller was serviced in 2024, and the stuffing box was serviced the same year. Recent updates include a rebuilt hydraulic steering cylinder, replaced AC wiring, new bonding throughout the hull, and a ProNautic 40-amp charger installed in 2023.
