1981 Islander Peterson 40

This 1981 Islander Peterson 40 is a classic sloop design built for both speed and cruising comfort. The boat features a shallow 5.1-foot Scheel keel, enabling it to access shallower waters while maintaining the performance characteristics that make it a swift sailor. A freshwater boat since launch, it has been continuously maintained on the Great Lakes.

The sailing inventory is extensive, including three spinnakers and seven-plus headsails for varied wind conditions. Additional equipment comes with the boat: a stainless steel barbecue, a custom winter cover, and a steel storage cradle for periods out of the water.

At 39.5 feet in length with an 11.6-foot beam, the boat achieves cruising speeds of seven knots and maximum speeds around nine knots under sail. The fiberglass hull has been preserved through decades of freshwater use, supporting years of active cruising and daysailing on the Great Lakes.
