The Shannon 38 Ketch is a classic cruising sailboat built by Shannon Boat Company in Bristol, Rhode Island, with design by Schulz and Stadel. At 38 feet overall with an 11.5-foot beam, she displaces 18,500 pounds with 7,300 pounds of internal lead ballast. The fiberglass hull and cored deck are in sound condition, with the non-skid deck recently recoated. She is rigged as a two-masted ketch with the mizzen stepped on the cockpit sole and the main mast keel-stepped below deck. Rod rigging throughout supports a full sail inventory including a new 2025 Doyle genoa on roller furling, mainsail and mizzen with reef points, staysail, and club boom.
The interior is finished throughout in golden teak with a solid teak and holly cabin sole. Forward is a V berth with privacy door and storage. The main saloon features twin settees that extend into berths, a teak table with hinged leaves, and abundant locker space. To starboard is a generous head with sink and hot and cold water. The galley is U-shaped to starboard with a three-burner Force 10 stove, oven, broiler, double sink with seawater pump, microwave, and refrigerated locker with Sea Frost refrigeration. The navigation station to port includes a Furuno NavNet GPS and radar plotter with Garmin backup, ICOM VHF and ICOM/Kenwood SSB radios, and Simrad autopilot. A quarter berth is located aft with storage below.
Power comes from a Perkins 4-108 40-horsepower diesel engine with 3,900 hours. A new transmission was installed in 2024. A new Sidepower 8-horsepower bow thruster with updated motor and controller was added in 2024 and 2025. Fuel capacity is 55 gallons, water is 120 gallons, and holding tank is 12 gallons. Electrical systems include five Group 31 AGM batteries (four below the quarter berth installed in 2023, one forward under the V berth), a Heart 60-amp charger with 1-kilowatt inverter, 90-amp engine alternator, and wind and solar generation.
