1982 Bristol Yawl

A 40-foot Bristol Yawl designed by Ted Hood, this 1982 sailing yacht combines classic proportions with proven seaworthiness. The full-keel hull is fiberglass construction, powered by a 40-horsepower Westerbeke diesel engine with approximately 820 hours on the engine, which was overhauled in 2014. Topside paint and brightwork were refreshed in 2024. The boat operates at a cruising speed of 6 knots.

The sail plan includes a main, mizzen, jib, storm jib, and spinnaker—all North Premium NorDac sails—with self-rolling Furlex furling systems on the main, mizzen, and jib for manageable single-handed sailing. Lewmar self-tailing winches provide good mechanical advantage. Tank capacity includes 130 gallons of fresh water, 31 gallons of fuel, and a 15-gallon holding tank.

Below deck, accommodations consist of three single berths and one double berth, with a head featuring a shower and sink. Hot water is supplied by a heat exchanger. Onboard systems include a 12-volt battery charger with three batteries installed in 2022, a 700-watt power inverter, shore power inlet, depth sounder, Autohelm, VHF radio, and GPS. Manual and electric bilge pumps are fitted, and the galley includes a range and oven. Cockpit cushions and a steering wheel complete the layout, along with a spinnaker pole for sail handling.
