A 1984 Irwin 38, designed by Ted Irwin with a 40-foot fiberglass hull and 12.25-foot beam. This center-cockpit cruiser is powered by a Perkins 4-108 diesel engine and carries three sails—a furling genoa, furling staysail, and in-mast main—all controlled from the cockpit. The boat features standing rigging updated in 2023 and 2024, a fully enclosed dodger with removable side panels, and comprehensive navigation electronics including Garmin chartplotter and radar, Vesper AIS, and Alpha 3000 autopilot.
Below deck, the layout includes a master stateroom aft with a double berth, a forward cabin with a vee berth, and two heads—one aft with a manual Raritan and holding tank, and one forward with manual discharge. The galley is well-equipped with a three-burner gimballed propane stove and oven, two refrigeration units, and a built-in microwave and toaster oven. The main salon opens to port and starboard settees with a large dining table and comfortable seating. House power comes from 440 amp-hours of Lifeline AGM batteries with a new Pronautic charger and Xantrex inverter fitted in 2024.
Deck hardware is substantial: a 44-pound Delta plow anchor with 360 feet of chain and new Maxwell electric windlass, twin stern anchors, and a roll-up dinghy with a 6-horsepower Tohatsu outboard. The boat carries 145 gallons of fresh water, 96 gallons of fuel capacity, and includes a Honda EU2000i generator. The teak and holly interior throughout features custom joinery, storage, and cabinetry. Recent work includes new rigging, a fresh-water pump replacement, new bottom paint, and refurbished heads in 2024 and 2025.
