This 1982 Passport 40 is a Robert Perry-designed offshore cruiser built with hand-laid fiberglass and a full keel. At 40 feet long with a 12-foot-8-inch beam and nearly 24,000 pounds of displacement, she combines proven bluewater capability with solid traditional construction. The boat is powered by a Yanmar diesel engine and rigged as a cutter with roller-furling genoa, staysail on inner forestay, and mainsail with stack pack.
Below deck, the interior features warm teak joinery with two cabins and one head. The layout includes a spacious salon with a U-shaped settee and fold-out dining table, a forward V-berth cabin with storage, and an aft cabin with double berth and private head access. The galley is well-equipped with deep double sinks, propane stove and oven, and refrigeration. A full-size chart table serves the navigation station.
On deck, the cockpit is designed for offshore work with full dodger and bimini, oversized winches, lines led aft for shorthanded operation, and a stainless steel arch with davits and solar panels. The boat handles well in heavy seas and tracks reliably offshore.
The boat has undergone extensive maintenance and upgrades over recent years, including hull work with soda blasting and epoxy barrier coat in 2019 and 2023, replacement of shaft and cutlass bearing components, new sails from Precision Sails in 2020, new battery banks and electrical system upgrades, rebuilt water maker and heating systems, new navigation and radar electronics, a new Yanmar engine in 2023, and routine annual zinc and oil changes.
