The Baba 40 is a substantial fiberglass cruising yacht built in 1983 with a proven offshore design. She carries a single Yanmar 4JH4E diesel engine of 54 horsepower and has logged 3,850 engine hours. The hull is finished in Awlgrip white with a copper ablative bottom, and the deck features natural teak bulwarks, handrails, and laid-and-caulked teak cockpit seats. In 2019, the teak decks were replaced with fiberglass decking and nonskid, then Awlgripped. She is rigged with an aluminum mast and boom and equipped with a Lofrans windlass on her teak bowsprit, double lifelines, and double bow and stern rails.
Significant structural and mechanical work has been completed in recent years. New standing rigging using Dyneema was installed in 2019, and all chainplates were replaced in 2015. A new forward bulkhead was fitted between the berth and anchor locker in 2019. The inner forestay, headstay, and backstay are new as of 2020. Twelve new bronze seacocks have been installed, and all running rigging has been replaced. The sail inventory includes a 2021 Doyle main with full battens, a 2021 Doyle hank-on staysail, a 2021 95-percent Yankee with Schaefer roller furler, and storm jib and trysail. An aluminum wind pilot self-steering vane is fitted.
The interior accommodates six in teak, arranged as a two-cabin layout with a spacious main salon. Forward is a large queen berth with thick mattress, hanging locker, and numerous storage lockers. The enclosed head features a stainless steel sink and a new Lavac head with holding tank and y-valve, with a separate forward shower stall. The main salon contains a U-shaped dinette to port and a straight settee to starboard, both with outboard lockers, plus a nav table to starboard. A U-shaped galley to port is fitted with double stainless steel sinks, a Princess LPG three-burner stove and oven, a Grunert 110-volt refrigerator, and a Frigidaire microwave. The aft starboard guest cabin holds a queen-sized quarter berth with seat and hanging locker.
Power and systems include a 2018 Northern Lights 5-kilowatt generator, a single 8D Lifeline AGM 300-amp-hour house battery, an engine start battery, and a 12-volt and 110-volt electrical panel. Fresh water capacity is 120 gallons in two 60-gallon stainless steel tanks (replaced), fuel capacity is 90 gallons in aluminum tanks, and holding capacity is 25 gallons with y-valve and deck discharge.
