This 1983 Bristol 38.8 is a Ted Hood design known for versatility in both offshore passages and shallow waters. The centerboard design draws only 4 feet 6 inches with the board retracted and 10 feet 3 inches deployed, making it suited for the Intracoastal Waterway and Bahamas cruising. The hand-laid fiberglass hull carries 19,950 pounds of displacement, with an additional 800 pounds of internal ballast added by the original owners in consultation with Hood himself. The double-spreader rig with outboard and inboard shrouds performs well on all points of sail, supported by a 58-foot air draft.
The cabin interior features warm teak throughout, including a teak and holly sole and ceiling on the hull sides. The saloon headroom reaches 6 feet 8 inches, with 6 feet 4 inches in the forward cabin and head. Sleeping accommodations include a forward double berth with custom orthopedic mattress, port and starboard double berths in the saloon, a quarter berth, and a large head with shower accessible from both the owner's stateroom and saloon. The teak dining table has drop leaves and concealed storage. Abundant locker and drawer space throughout, including a large wet locker for foul weather gear.
The Universal 44-horsepower diesel has approximately 3,600 hours and received new fuel injectors in 2022, motor mount replacement in 2007, and shaft log and cutlass bearing work in 2023. Standing rigging was replaced between 2016 and 2022. The sail inventory includes a 2017 Rolly Tasker offshore-grade mainsail with double reef points and Dutchman flaking system, a 2019 Rolly Tasker 125 percent genoa, and a North Sails asymmetrical gennaker with sock.
Navigation and electrical systems include a Raymarine RL-70 radar, Garmin chartplotter, Echomap 50 at the helm, and Standard Horizon VHF radio. Three house batteries totaling 630 amp-hours and two 100-watt solar panels power the system. Harken roller furler, Lewmar primary winches, and a Merriman centerboard winch complete the deck hardware. The boat includes a 36-gallon aluminum fuel tank, Variprop three-blade bronze propeller, and a Lewmar electric windlass with 44-pound CQR anchor and 275 feet of chain.
