The 1983 Grand Banks 42 Classic is a fiberglass trawler powered by twin 1995 Yanmar 6LYA-STP diesel engines rated at 370 horsepower each. The engines, running 2,425 and 2,426 hours respectively, drive the boat to a cruising speed of 9–12 knots and a maximum speed of 18 knots at wide-open throttle. The boat is equipped with ZF 2.478:1 reduction gears, dual station cable steering, an emergency tiller, and Bennett trim tabs. A 2024 replacement of the starboard engine's heat exchanger and recent fuel system upgrades including a Smart Switch gauge and Racor filters support reliable operation.
The hull was repainted in 2021 with Awlgrip Royal Blue and received new bottom paint in 2023. Teak decks, a teak swim platform, and a painted teak transom give the boat classic character; caprails and rubrail were replaced in 2021, and exterior teak was freshly varnished with 6–8 coats in June 2026. Salon windows were replaced to stop leaking. The flybridge features a Royal Blue enclosure with new Isinglass, a bimini, and a dodger; white wicker furniture and cushions complete the space.
Below deck, the boat sleeps six across three cabins with teak parquet soles and Burmese teak joinery throughout. The forward cabin has a vee berth and hanging locker; the main cabin combines salon, galley, and lower helm to starboard with side doors; and the aft cabin features a walk-around queen berth with an ensuite head and shower. The galley includes a Princess three-burner electric stove, two U-line refrigerator-freezers, Keurig coffee maker, and Cuisinart convection microwave. A forward head with shower serves the forward cabin. The main salon features an L-shaped settee, drop-leaf dining table, and a port credenza with television.
Electronics include Raymarine autopilot, E80 and E140W plotters linked to Open Array hybrid-touch radar, dual ICOM VHF radios, Tic Tac wind speed indicator, and Fusion stereo. Power comes from a Northern Lights 500-hour generator, three 8D AGM batteries, a Xantrex 3012 charger-inverter, and 50-amp shore power. Fuel capacity is 600 gallons in two painted steel tanks; water is 270 gallons in three aluminum tanks. Equipment includes an ideal electric windlass, Bruce and Danforth anchors, two 12V bilge pumps, and full safety gear. A 10-foot West Marine RIB with 10-horsepower Tohatsu outboard is available.
