This 1983 Moody 44 Grenadier is a classic offshore cruising yacht designed by naval architect Laurent Giles. Built with the solid construction Moody is known for, the fiberglass hull features a balanced design suited to extended passages and long-distance sailing. The boat is powered by a Perkins diesel engine that received a complete overhaul in 2018, including new stuffing box, shaft, propeller, and cylinder block; the engine shows 5548 hours. A bow thruster aids maneuverability in tight quarters.
Below deck, three cabins provide comfortable sleeping for family and guests. The aft cabin holds a double and single berth, while forward accommodations include a double berth and twin berths in an upper cabin. Two heads with showers serve the sleeping areas. The main saloon is bright and spacious, with traditional Moody woodwork throughout. The galley features a Force 10 stove, double stainless sink, grill, and oven. A recently replaced refrigerator and 60-liter water heater support extended cruising. Abundant locker and storage space, some lit, keeps gear organized.
The deck and cockpit are laid in teak, regularly maintained, and include a protected helm station with retractable and folding tables, cushions, and full weather protection via canopy and awnings. A teak platform with ladder and catway boarding system complement the layout. Navigation equipment includes Raymarine Axiom chartplotter, original radar, AIS, EPIRB, compass, depth sounder, and multiple repeaters. The rigging is cutter-configuration with roller-furling jib and staysail, plus a roller-furling mainsail. All sails are in good condition. Anchoring is backed by 80 meters of Grade 70 chain, two anchors, and a new manual bilge pump.
Recent maintenance includes a full hull scrape and repainting with two-part epoxy in 2023, ready application of semi-eroding antifouling, and annual zincs. Electrical systems feature 12V, 24V, and 220V circuits with a Fisher Panda 3.7kW generator, two solar panels on adjustable mounts, and Victron Energy components. A Webasto multi-zone heating system, inflatable tender with outboard, and full offshore safety certification round out the package.
