1983 Nonsuch Cat Ketch

This is hull number 9 of only 68 Nonsuch 36 Cat-Ketch yachts built and the sole example rigged as a cat-ketch within the entire Nonsuch fleet. Designed by Mark Ellis and custom-built by George Hinterhoeller, she was constructed for offshore sailing with reinforced cockpit design, a raised companionway for enhanced seaworthiness, and rigging optimized for single-handed operation. All running lines lead to the cockpit, supported by electric winches and self-tacking wishbone rigs. The heavily built fiberglass hull has been extensively refitted, including Awlgrip finish on hull and deck, rebedded hardware, an epoxy barrier coat, and mast rework. She is powered by a 63 hp Westerbeke diesel engine with approximately 1,200 hours, cruising comfortably at 7 to 8 knots.

The interior offers 6 feet 6 inches of headroom throughout, with three separate cabins accommodating six berths. The forward stateroom features a large double berth to port with generous locker space, vanity, and wash basin, with ventilation provided by overhead hatches and opening side ports. The U-shaped galley is equipped with a Seafrost refrigerator/freezer, double stainless sink, and a three-burner gimballed Hillerange propane stove with oven. The yacht carries substantial battery capacity of 540 ampere-hours in AGM deep-cycle batteries (2020 installation) and includes a four-panel solar array for off-grid capability.

On deck, the spacious cockpit accommodates six or more persons and is fitted with gray Textilene mesh cushions. Teak appointments include a swim platform with boarding ladder, mainsail boom crutch, and a teak bow pulpit platform. A Lofrans Tigres anchor windlass, extended stainless steel bow and stern pulpits, and two 45-pound CQR anchors with 175 feet of chain and rode comprise the anchoring system. A 10-foot Dyer four-man sailing dinghy is provided with davit stowage via an A & H Ltd. 1001 system. Deck hardware includes a hard dodger, Sunbrella bimini, teak companionway doors, and multiple companionway closure options. Navigation equipment includes Garmin GPS, Signet depth sounder and wind speed indicator, Autohelm 4000 autopilot, Horizon VHF, and an ACR RLB-41 EPIRB.

Recent maintenance includes replacement of plexiglass in all four overhead hatches and all eleven opening ports with screens in 2020. The battery bank was renewed in 2020. Comprehensive service records from the current and three previous owners, extensive spare parts, and spares halyards are included. Off-grid systems feature solar panels and battery capacity suitable for extended cruising. The yacht includes safety equipment comprising a six-person Switlik life raft, life rings, and jacklines.
