1983 Nordic 44

This 1983 Nordic 44 is a 44-foot fiberglass sloop designed by Robert Perry, combining ocean-crossing capability with racing performance. The boat features a robust construction philosophy: a solid hand-laid fiberglass hull with a deep fin keel, heavy-duty skeg-hung rudder, and ballast-to-displacement ratio optimized for stability and seaworthiness in heavy weather. Power comes from a Universal M-50 diesel engine producing 50 horsepower, with a ZF-15 transmission, achieving a cruising speed of 6 knots and maximum speed of 7 knots. The boat carries 50 gallons of fuel and 150 gallons of fresh water.

Below deck, the interior features teak joinery throughout with a teak and holly sole. Accommodations include four berths (two doubles), a U-shaped galley with a Force 10 four-burner gimbaled stove, oven, and Adler Barber refrigeration, plus a proper forward-facing navigation station. A diesel-fired Eberspacher heater and Dometic air conditioning provide climate control. The salon has port and starboard settees, cedar-lined lockers, and a fold-away teak table with bookshelves.

Recent updates and replacements include new opening ports, stuffing box and log (2024), Garmin autopilot and radar (2023), new Fusion stereo, and refreshed hydraulic backstay and vang systems. The rigging is dyneema standing rig from circa 2016 with a Selden roller-furl system and Navtec hydraulic controls. The rig carries a full suit of sails including a Mack main with three reef points and lazy jack system, North Sails genoa, and both symmetric and asymmetrical spinnakers.

Electronics and navigation are well-equipped with Garmin chartplotter and autopilot, B&G radar and wind instrumentation, Si-TEX AIS, and ICOM VHF with DSC. Power comes from three house battery banks (Rolls), a wind generator, and 170-watt solar panel. Safety equipment includes a Winslow six-person life raft, Life Sling MOB recovery system, dual bilge pumps, and drogue parachute anchors.
