The Shannon 38 is a classic offshore cruising ketch built in 1983 by Shannon Boat Company, known for constructing blue water yachts to exacting standards. This 38-foot fiberglass hull, with an 11.5-foot beam, combines proven seaworthiness with comfortable accommodations. Powered by a single 51-horsepower Perkins diesel engine, the ketch rig allows for up to six sails and is manageable by a solo sailor, couple, or family. The design excels in challenging conditions and performs well both on open water and in confined passages.
Below deck, teak joinery defines the interior. The forward cabin is generous with abundant locker storage, shelves, and drawers, separated from the mast enclosure by a bi-fold privacy door. A full head with shower, vanity sink, and hanging locker sits to starboard midships. The main salon is bright and well-ventilated, featuring long settees with lee cloths that serve as berths, plus an upper pilot berth on the port side. The dining area includes a large folding teak table and a U-shaped settee that converts to a double berth.
The galley is well-equipped with a double stainless steel sink, LPG stove and oven, and refrigeration with freezer. The navigation station features a built-in seat and electrical panel, with a quarter berth immediately aft. The engine compartment sits centerline beneath the companionway steps, keeping mechanical access straightforward. This layout—typically found on larger and newer boats—makes efficient use of the available space.
