A 1983 Sparkman & Stephens 52 designed for the IOR rating system and built in New York by Eric Goetze. Originally launched as Golden Eagle, this cold-moulded cedar yacht over Nomex core combines classic racing pedigree with substantial modern upgrades completed in 2020. The yacht is powered by a 75 hp Yanmar diesel engine and measures 51 feet in length with a 16-foot beam.
The interior layout features three cabins and accommodates crew and family with an owner's aft cabin that includes its own ensuite. Headroom is generous throughout, and the space combines traditional craftsmanship—original Bird's Eye maple dining table, cabin doors, and teak-holly flooring—with contemporary comfort. New upholstery, mattresses, and foam-backed vinyl headliners and wall panels refresh the living areas. A new four-burner gas stove, fridge with split system freezer, and completely new plumbing system with 40-litre hot water capacity support cruising needs.
The 2020 refurbishment is extensive. The hull received full fairing, re-glassing, and Awlcraft 2000 topcoat. New teak decking in both cockpits, re-glassed deck with fresh non-skid, and a new mast with standing and running rigging including Dynema halyards ready the yacht for sailing. Two primary winches upgraded to two-speed electric, and a new North Sails furling genoa from 2022 complete the rig. Deck hardware was reconditioned and re-sprayed, and a new Rocna 33 kg anchor with 80 metres of 12 mm chain was fitted.
Navigation and electrical systems are fully modern: Raymarine B&G electronics package with dual 7-inch plotters, autopilot, forward-facing sonar, VHF with AIS, and a complete 12 and 240V electrical system with solar regulator, 3000W inverter-charger, and two 400W solar panels. New electric toilets with 60-litre black water holding tanks, a Stella 80-litre-per-hour water maker, and dual bilge pumps support extended cruising. Amenities include a new bimini and dodger, tiltable stainless davit, and removable transom teak steps with fold-up duckboard.
