The Indigo is a 1983 Wauquiez Hood, a 38-foot fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by Ted Hood. Built for performance and durability, she carries the pedigree of a well-engineered bluewater yacht, having cruised extensively from Alaska down the west coast of North America, through the Gulf, and into the Bahamas. Her robust construction and refined design make her equally at home under sail or engine.
The interior arranges two cabins and sleeps four. Below deck, the layout balances living space with practical cruising storage. Dual water tanks sit under the settee, supported by a Seagull purification system for drinking water and a tank monitor for management. Climate control includes a Cruisair 16,000 BTU air conditioning and heating unit, with a diesel furnace installed (not connected) and a truck heater plumbed to the engine cooling system.
Propulsion combines a Perkins 4-108 diesel engine—approximately 3,200 hours—with a Hurth transmission installed in 2013. The cutlass bearing was replaced in 2019, and the rudder and centerboard were serviced in 2020. Standing rigging was replaced and a Profurl furler added in 2016, with a detachable forestay and solent stay rigged in 2021. The sail plan includes a main with three-reef points, 80% jib, 135% genoa, and symmetric spinnaker. Multiple Lewmar and winches handle sheet work throughout the deck.
Systems are comprehensive and current. Navigation relies on a 2020 Raymarine Axiom 9-inch chartplotter at the helm, with Raymarine instruments for speed, wind, and depth. An Em-trak B100 AIS transponder, 2021 Raymarine Q24C Quantum radar, and Simrad TP22 provide modern piloting aids. Electrical power draws from three Lifeline AGM batteries and 210 amp-hours of house batteries installed in 2019, charged by a 110-amp alternator with multiple solar and wind generation options. A 2020 Viking life raft and 2020 Walker Bay 240 dinghy complete the inventory. Bottom paint was applied in 2024.
