This 38-foot Benford pilothouse tug cruiser was designed by Jay Benford and built by Cape-Bay Shipbuilders. The fiberglass hull is supported by a single Westerbeke diesel engine that cruises at 7 knots with a maximum speed of 8.7 knots, making her well-suited for unhurried coastal passages and anchorages. The boat carries substantial fuel and water tankage and is equipped with an 8-kilowatt generator, windlass, heating and air conditioning systems.
The interior features three cabins and one head, finished throughout in varnished hardwoods. The layout works well for couples or families seeking to live aboard or undertake extended cruises. The main saloon floor has been modified to incorporate an engine room hatch, improving access for maintenance and inspection.
Recent work includes a bottom strip, epoxy barrier coat, and fresh paint. Three 100-watt Renogy solar panels with controller and new battery bank were installed to enhance self-sufficiency. New motor mounts were fitted as part of a comprehensive upgrade program. These improvements combine with the boat's robust design to create a capable platform for extended cruising or live-aboard use.
