1984 Islander Peterson 40

This 1984 Islander Peterson 40 is a Doug Peterson design that underwent a comprehensive refit from 2015 to 2016. The boat features Divincell cored decks, a reinforced hull-to-deck joint sealed with epoxy and new fasteners, and a keel that was dropped and re-sealed during the work. The hull and decks were repainted, and all thru-hulls were replaced with new Marelon fittings. New fixed portlights complete the exterior refresh. Rod rigging was installed in 2017 with a new aluminum mast step, paired with a 2-spreader masthead rig, running backstays, and a baby stay for strong upwind performance.

The engine is a 50 hp 1.6L VW Pathfinder diesel that was rebuilt in 2018 and has accumulated only 500 hours since. A 2-blade Max Prop with PYI dripless shaft seal and a new cutless bearing from 2021 handle propulsion. A high-output 110 amp Balmar alternator with regulator and Duo Charge manages charging. The boat carries a comprehensive sail inventory from Harding Sails: full batten main and 130% furling genoa both from 2017, plus 110% furling jib, 150% genoa, and both asymmetrical and symmetric spinnakers. A Sailtec adjustable backstay from 2021 and Harken roller furling complete the sail plan.

The cabin features a new Meranti marine plywood sole with hinged floorboards for bilge access, installed in 2019. An engine-supplied heater with circulation pump and an electric/engine water heater provide climate control. The galley has a propane stovetop, microwave, and rebuilt cabinetry from 2016. A manual Raritan head with rebuilt cabinetry serves the head compartment. Electronics include Raytheon Pathfinder SL70 radar, Furuno autopilot, Raymarine wind/depth/speed displays, and updated communications with VHF DSC, Icom AIS/GPS, and Wi-Fi capability. House batteries totaling approximately 270 amp-hours were renewed in 2025, backed by a Renogy 2000W inverter and 75 amp charger.

Ground tackle consists of a 20 kg Mantus anchor with 35 feet of chain and 300 feet of rode installed in 2019. Dual bilge pumps—one with high water alarm—plus an emergency manual pump provide redundancy. The boat includes a winter cover and a rail-mounted grill. The boat was first launched in 2017 after its refit, with documentation available for the structural and systems work completed.
