The Ponderosa 42 is a 42-foot fiberglass sedan bridge cruiser powered by twin Perkins diesel engines rated at 330 horsepower total. She cruises at 11 knots and reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots, making her well-suited for extended coastal exploration and weeklong passages through protected waters.
The interior accommodates two cabins and two heads, providing comfortable overnight facilities for a cruising couple or small family. The bridge design offers excellent visibility and command of the boat from an elevated helm, typical of this well-regarded model from the early 1980s.
Recent maintenance and upgrades include bottom work completed in August 2024—repair of blisters, seal coating, and application of fresh anti-fouling paint—along with new zinc anodes on propeller shafts, rudders, and trim tabs. Engine and generator maintenance in February 2025 included oil changes, impeller replacement, and fuel filter service. The generator heat exchanger was cleaned and the starting battery replaced. Additional work includes new LED engine room lighting, a CQR anchor with chain and rode, and windlass repair. A new VHF radio and antenna were installed in the main salon, along with a new AM/FM radio and windshield wiper motor.
