1984 Tillotson-Pearson Freedom 28

The Tillotson-Pearson Freedom 28 is a Gary Hoyt-designed cat-sloop built for straightforward sailing. Its free-standing carbon-fiber mast eliminates the complexity of standing rigging and chainplates, making it ideal for single-handed cruising or relaxed daysailing. The boat measures 28 feet 3 inches overall with a 9-foot 3-inch beam and 4-foot 6-inch draft on a fin keel, displacing 6,400 pounds with 2,000 pounds of lead ballast. Power comes from a Yammer 2GM20F 18-horsepower diesel that starts reliably and was serviced in spring 2025; the engine is freshwater-cooled. Fuel capacity is 18 gallons, water 30 gallons, and holding tank 15 gallons.

On deck, the boat carries a bimini and dodger for sun protection and an open transom with swim ladder. Below, the cabin offers 6 feet 2 inches of headroom throughout, with warm teak joinery and a solid sole. The layout includes a private V-berth with cushions forward, a dinette and full-length settees amidships, and an enclosed head with sink and shower pan. The galley features a propane stove, deep icebox, stainless sink, and ample counter space.

Systems include a shore-power charger, modern 12-volt electrical panel, VHF radio, and depth/speed log. The bottom has been cleaned and inspected. Original owner's manuals, spares, and service paperwork are included. The boat was maintained in freshwater on Grapevine Lake, which minimizes corrosion concerns.
