The 1985 Amel Sharki represents a landmark in bluewater cruising design. Built in La Rochelle, France as hull number 127 of just 195 examples, this 39-foot ketch embodies Henri Amel's philosophy of seaworthiness and self-sufficiency. The yacht features a fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, and protected cockpit—design hallmarks that have proven themselves across decades of serious ocean sailing. Displacing 21,385 pounds, she carries substantial tankage: 340 liters of fuel and 750 liters of fresh water, with a Spectra Ventura watermaker producing 24 liters per hour.
Power comes from a 43-horsepower Beta Marine diesel installed in 2013 with approximately 1,900 hours on the engine. The yacht maintains a cruising speed of 6 knots and reaches 8 knots at full throttle, consuming 2–3 liters per hour at moderate RPM. Standing rigging was replaced in 2019, and the rig carries in-mast furling main and mizzen, a genoa, code zero, mizzen staysail, and furling screecher, with whisker poles for downwind work.
The interior accommodates six berths across two cabins, plus a saloon berth. The owner cabin and forward cabin each offer a double berth, with additional single berths and flexible sleeping arrangements throughout. Recent refurbishment includes sanded and painted interior surfaces, new custom upholstery installed in November 2025, fresh mattresses in the aft cabin, and refreshed storage lockers. The saloon headroom reaches 1.91 meters. The galley features a two-burner stove with oven, 12-volt refrigerator, manual foot pump, and custom removable food-prep counter. A Grizzly wood stove provides heating for cold-climate cruising.
Electrical systems center on four 100-amp-hour lithium batteries installed July 2025, supported by dual 100-amp alternators, a 60-amp DC-DC charger, and 330 watts of folding solar panels. Navigation and safety electronics include Si-Tex radar, Garmin chartplotter, Furuno GPS, Garmin depth sounder, ICOM SSB and AIS, and multiple VHF radios for redundancy. Ground tackle comprises a 33-kilogram Rocna primary anchor, 25-kilogram secondary Rocna, 4-kilogram dinghy anchor, 200 feet of primary chain, and 150 feet plus 200 feet of nylon rode. The yacht is outfitted with a Lewmar windlass serviced in 2025, a sailing plywood dinghy with serviced 4-horsepower Yamaha outboard, and two-person inflatable kayak. Topsides and decks were repainted in Awlgrip in 2019; hull was last antifouled in 2022. The boat includes extensive spare parts onboard, comprehensive safety equipment, and is sold fully equipped as shown.
