1985 Beneteau First 42

The Beneteau First 42 is a classic ocean racer-cruiser designed by German Frers, combining substantial weight for seaworthiness with the speed to perform competitively under sail. At 42 feet with a beam of 13 feet, she has proven capable—her history includes consecutive wins in the Annapolis to Bermuda ocean race, six Caribbean winters, and a passage to Cuba. The boat carries a Volvo Penta D2-55 diesel engine that cruises at 7 knots and reaches 8 knots maximum.

The interior layout centers on two cabins and two heads. Control lines lead aft to enable short-handed sailing. The saloon and forward cabin both have air conditioning and heating. A custom galley and dining area feature a dedicated storage table unit. The cabin sole has been refurbished, and fresh water hoses and faucets were replaced in 2016.

Significant systems upgrades include a new Selden mast and all standing and running rigging installed in 2017. The engine was replaced in 2008. A Lewmar electric windlass was fitted in 2018. The electrical and communications panels were completely rebuilt in 2015, with battery banks updated in 2023 and charger and inverter replaced in 2022. Sea Frost refrigeration, four solar panels, and B&G navigation electronics with an H5000 processor support cruising autonomy.
