1985 Holman 55

This 1985 Holman 55 is a fiberglass sloop designed by Kim Holman and built by Sail Fast Industries in San Diego. Hull number 4 in the series, she was purpose-built for offshore performance sailing. The boat features a fin keel and elegant racing lines typical of Holman designs, with a robust fiberglass hull and fiberglass/wood sandwich core deck. She measures 55 feet overall with a 14-foot beam and draws 6.4 feet.

Power comes from a Perkins 120 HP diesel engine coupled to shaft drive with a two-blade propeller. The engine received a complete overhaul in September 2017 and has logged only 158 hours since. Cruising speed is 8 knots with a maximum of 9 knots, burning approximately 0.75 gallons per hour. Fuel capacity is 122.5 gallons and water capacity is 157.5 gallons. The boat carries a 12-volt electrical system with shore power connection, house and engine batteries (the latter replaced in June 2024), and three 100-watt solar panels. An autopilot and depth transducer are installed, and a SeaRanger 3000 VHF radio and AIS/EPIRB are aboard.

The accommodations include a spacious owner's stateroom aft, a generous saloon amidships with chart table and navigation station, and forward berths. The galley is positioned amidships to port with a double sink, stove/oven, and 12-volt refrigeration and freezer. Multiple hatches provide light and ventilation throughout.

Recent maintenance includes a complete hull repaint and antifouling in August 2024, electrical system rewiring completed in February 2020, and propeller balancing and trimming in 2018. The aluminum rig is configured as a sloop/cutter with manual winches and slab reefing on the mainsail. Deck equipment includes a life raft, davits, windlass, bimini, deck shower, tender, and swim ladder. Safety gear, anchors, bilge pumps, and fire extinguishers are on board.
