This 1985 Morgan 384 is a 38-foot fiberglass cruising sailboat built with solid construction: an Airex foam core hull sandwiched between fiberglass layers (solid below the waterline) and a balsa core deck. The boat is powered by a newer Beta Marine 50 hp diesel engine with low hours, upgraded from the original 35 hp Perkins. Recent mechanical work includes new engine mounts, propeller, shaft, cutlass bearing, and dripless packing gland. The standing and running rigging were replaced approximately seven years ago, and the boat carries new sails and new bottom paint.
The interior layout centers on a large salon with an L-shaped dinette to port and straight settee to starboard. Forward is a private cabin with a V-berth; aft is a captain's quarter berth. The galley sits to port and features a gimbaled propane stove with oven, pressurized water system, large sinks, and refrigeration. The head is spacious with a separate shower and a new Jabsco pump. A navigation station occupies the starboard side. Four dorade vents with cowl ventilation and multiple opening hatches and portlights provide light and airflow throughout.
The 384 is rigged with a tall mast and shorter boom that improve sailing performance. The mainsail (approximately 10 years old, rarely used) and a 150% genoa roller furler are primary working sails, with backup originals, a solent stay, hank-on jib, storm jib, and storm trysail also aboard. An asymmetrical spinnaker with snuffer and whisker pole round out the sail inventory. The boat features a jiffy reef system, lazy jack system, mast tabernacle for bridge clearance, and four Lewmar self-tailing winches. Deck equipment includes a Sapale wood cockpit table with folding leaves, custom teak drink holders, teak refinished with protective covers, new lifelines with pelican hooks, and new portlights. A Bimini and dodger by Charm City Canvas, plus a custom three-piece winter cover, provide weather protection.
Navigation and electrical systems include Garmin chartplotter, VHF radio, radar, autopilot, and AIS, plus Ray Marine tridata. A Bay Breeze wind generator and battery bank of one start and four AGM house batteries support ship's power. Fuel capacity totals 75 gallons (two tanks); freshwater capacity is 95 gallons (two tanks). A Switlik life raft is aboard.
