1985 Tartan 28

This 1985 Tartan 28 was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and represents the class's reputation for combining performance with refined interior finishing. The hull is hand-laid fiberglass with a lead keel secured by stainless steel bolts, and the deck features a self-bailing cockpit designed for both safety and comfort. The keel-stepped masthead rig carries double spreaders with stainless steel 1x19 upper and lower side stays, forestay, split backstay, and baby stay. An aluminum toe rail with slotted detail secures the hull-to-deck joint, and the deck offers wide walking space with double lifelines and handrails throughout.

Below deck, the cabin layout includes a double forepeak berth with standing headroom for changing, a convertible starboard settee, a port settee with fold-down nav station behind, and a wide quarter berth to starboard with storage locker. The head sits to starboard between the forward and main cabins with a hanging locker opposite; standing headroom throughout is six feet. The keel steps through the head area, keeping moisture out of the main salon. A U-shaped galley features an Origo two-burner alcohol stove with ice box aft and stainless steel sink forward, plus locker storage above the stove.

The 18-horsepower Yanmar 2GMF diesel engine sits aft behind the companionway stairs with a 17-gallon fuel tank. A 12-inch bronze two-bladed propeller is mounted on a half-inch stainless steel shaft. Navigation and safety equipment includes VHF radio, binnacle compass, knot meter, and depth sounder. Eight opening ports with screens plus a forward deck hatch provide ventilation. Fresh water system includes a 30-gallon poly tank with pressure-fed hot and cold water; a six-gallon water heater and Raritan head with 16-gallon holding tank serve the galley and head. The boat comes with North Sails mainsail with blue cover, jib, and 150% genoa; Barient two-speed primary winches; wheel steering with guard, table, and brake; and a steel cradle.
