1986 Cape Dory 26

This 1986 Cape Dory 26 is a classic Carl Alberg design built as the larger sibling to the iconic 25D. Unlike the 25D's inboard diesel, the 26 features a purpose-built outboard well paired with a 9.9 hp Yamaha engine, combining the reliability of modern outboard power with the full-keel design and substantial displacement that define the Cape Dory brand. The hull is characterized by narrow beam, low freeboard, and a full keel with attached rudder. With a displacement exceeding 5,400 pounds and a D/L ratio above 330, this is a heavy displacement cruiser engineered for seakindly motion and exceptional tracking—qualities rarely found in boats under 27 feet. The 45% ballast-to-displacement ratio keeps the boat stiff and capable of carrying full sail as conditions freshen.

The interior follows a traditional four-berth cruising layout that feels spacious thanks to the 8-foot beam. Forward is a V-berth, amidships lies a head, and the main salon contains two opposing settees that convert to berths. A functional galley sits near the companionway for natural ventilation. The cabin retains original Spartan ports, two fitted with screens.

Recent upgrades include new Lemar 30 winches, new transom, a Ritchie compass, 100-watt solar panel, 1000-watt power inverter, Renogy battery monitor, and a Blue Sea electric circuit control panel with complete rewiring. All sails carry lazy jacks, and the anchor, chain, lines, head, hardware, water tanks, and seacocks are in good condition. The boat is currently hauled out and presents in solid condition overall.
