The Contest 38 Ketch is a centre-cockpit cruising yacht built in 1986 by Dutch yard Contest Yachts and designed by Dick Zaal. With a displacement hull, fin keel, and skeg-hung rudder, she was built for serious offshore sailing. The ketch rig offers versatile sail combinations and balanced handling in varying conditions. Her heavy GRP construction and strong ballast ratio provide the structural integrity and stability expected of a bluewater cruiser from this era.
The interior features a practical two-cabin layout with an aft owner's cabin, forward guest accommodation, saloon seating area, and dedicated navigation station. The galley is equipped with a gas stove, oven, refrigerator, and sink. Fresh water capacity is 600 litres and fuel capacity is 200 litres, supporting extended cruising. Teak decks and an integrated swim platform complement the deck layout, which includes an anchor windlass, davits, and bimini top.
Power comes from a Volvo Penta 2003T diesel engine rated at 43 hp. The engine was recently rebuilt and has approximately 100 hours of running time since the overhaul. Recent work includes new cutlass bearing, fresh oil and filters, new house batteries, and a new anchor chain. The Victron charging system and battery monitor are recent additions.
Navigation equipment includes autopilot, GPS, chartplotter, VHF radio, compass, depth sounder, wind instruments, and speedometer. The galley features hot water, shore power connection, and battery charger. The genoa UV strip has been renewed and sails have been checked and serviced.
