The Liberty 49 is a center-cockpit cruising yacht built in 1986 at the Shin Fa boat yard in Taiwan, designed by Stan C. Huntingford. At 49 feet in length with a 14-foot beam, the boat provides substantial interior volume suited to extended cruising and living aboard. Hull #4 of only 13 built, it combines proven offshore capability with a thoughtfully arranged layout.
The accommodations include a master cabin with a centerline king bed, a second cabin or den space, and two heads—one en-suite to the master with shower and tub, and a separate head with walk-in shower serving the second cabin. The main saloon offers 6 feet 9 inches of headroom throughout. A single 110 hp Yanmar diesel engine powers the yacht to a cruising speed of 8 knots and maximum speed of 9 knots.
The boat underwent a comprehensive overhaul in 2007 that addressed all mechanical systems, propulsion, wiring, plumbing, and the watermaker. The teak decks were removed and replaced with nonskid surface. Recent additions include an Iverson bimini-dodger with interchangeable clear and sun side panels, high stainless steel side rails, custom heavy-duty stainless davits, a fold-up boarding ladder, new standing rigging, and flexible solar panels with controllers. The hull was repainted in Awlgrip off-white with a blue stripe matching the original color scheme. Interior updates feature new Ultra-leather salon upholstery, Sunbrella cockpit cushions, and a custom mattress and bedding in the master cabin.
