The 1987 Bayliner 3870 is a 38-foot fiberglass cruiser built around twin Hino diesel engines, each producing 175 horsepower. The boat cruises at 10 knots with a maximum speed of 14 knots and draws approximately 3 feet of water. Power comes from a pair of 6-cylinder, 4-stroke Hino diesels paired with a new ZF transmission on the port shaft and a Hurth gearbox to starboard. Fuel capacity is 304 gallons split between two aluminum tanks. A Westerbeke 8kW generator provides auxiliary power, and an Espar D5 diesel furnace supplies heating throughout the boat.
The interior centers on a spacious salon with large windows and lower helm station, opening to a forward master cabin with V-berth and a guest cabin with twin bunks. Two heads are fitted with an electric vacuum flush head and a manual marine head, plus an enclosed shower space. The galley features a three-burner propane stove with oven, a Norcold refrigerator, microwave, ice maker, and propane barbecue. Water capacity is 80 gallons. The cabin sole was recently refinished with laminate flooring, and navigation electronics include a Raymarine touchscreen plotter, Sitex radar, Standard Horizon VHF radio with DSC, and autopilot.
Extensive recent upgrades address core systems: cooling systems for both main engines and generator were rebuilt, trim tabs replaced, dripless shaft seals installed, water tanks renewed, and the anchor windlass rebuilt. The transmission on the port shaft was replaced with a new ZF unit. The flybridge received a complete new canvas enclosure, and the navigation suite was fully replaced. A new alloy RIB tender with a 9.9-horsepower Suzuki outboard is included. Additional work included new hoses and system lines throughout, propane stove replacement, refrigerator renewal, and a new communications antenna.
