The Bowman 47 is a fiberglass sailing yacht built to robust standards for extended blue-water cruising. Designed by Holman and Pye and constructed by Jim Theodore, this 47-foot centre-cockpit layout offers traditional lines combined with capable offshore performance. The hull and balsa-core deck are built from glass-reinforced plastic, with a lead-encapsulated keel and a draft of 1.8 metres. A single Perkins 4.236 diesel engine with 75 horsepower drives the boat via direct stern shaft, with 5,300 hours recorded.
The yacht sleeps seven across a forward cabin, aft cabin, and convertible saloon berths. Below deck, you'll find a U-shaped galley, two heads with hot and cold showers, and a well-appointed navigation station. The saloon has good headroom suitable for extended time on the water. A 400-litre fresh water tank and 400-litre fuel capacity support cruising independence, while a towed Hamilton Ferris water generator provides additional freshwater production.
The rig is a single-spreader mast-head yawl, with standing rigging replaced in 2021 along with chain plates. The sail inventory includes a Dacron slab-reefed fully battened main, 130 percent genoa, number three jib, storm staysail, mizzen, mizzen staysail, and spinnaker. Navigation systems include Raymarine autopilot with depth, wind, and speed; Garmin GPS map 750; Digital Yacht AIS; and JRC radar.
Systems include two electric and two manual bilge pumps, a Mariner Princess two-burner stove with oven and grill, electric refrigeration, and two 80-watt and one 60-watt solar panels. An electric anchor winch with foot switch manages a 27-kilogramme Delta anchor with 100 metres of chain. Safety gear comprises a four-man liferaft with EPIRB, flares, and eight life jackets.
