1976 Frers Custom

This 1976 Frers-designed aluminum sloop was built by Palmer Johnson as a purpose-built IOR racer and has been transformed into a capable long-distance cruiser. Her flush-deck profile, triple-spreader rig, and solid stainless rod standing rigging reflect her racing heritage, while the aluminum hull—professionally repainted with AwlGrip—remains structurally sound. A 2021 ultrasound survey confirmed consistent plate thickness and proper reinforcement throughout. Power comes from a 75hp Yanmar turbo diesel with approximately 1,275 hours.

Below deck, the teak-veneered interior is arranged around a convertible U-shaped salon with a V-berth forward, mid-cabin single berth to starboard, and aft quarter cabin to port. The galley features Corian countertops, a three-burner propane stove with oven, freezer with spillover refrigeration, and double stainless sinks. A single head includes a manual toilet and hand shower. Forced-air diesel heating and 12-volt fans provide climate control throughout. Water systems include a pressure system, engine and electric water heater, and reverse osmosis watermaker.

Recent upgrades include Harken jib tracks and Black Magic ball-bearing blocks, new Lewmar windlass with foot controls, Lewmar and Spinlock clutches throughout, and a comprehensive 2022–2023 electrical system overhaul: Victron MultiPlus inverter-charger, dual 400-watt solar panels with independent SmartSolar controllers, and two new Lifeline 8D AGM batteries. Navigation electronics include Furuno GPS-plotter, Raytheon autopilot, wind and speed instruments, Icom VHF and SSB radios, and Richie compass.

The sail inventory comprises mainsail with stack-pack cover, furling genoa, backup jib, and asymmetrical spinnaker. Deck gear includes six winches, Harken traveler, and an adjustable aluminum whisker pole. An Avon Rover Lite RIB tender with Tohatsu 6hp outboard, full canvas covers, and complete safety equipment including lifelines, pulpit, stanchions, and emergency tiller round out the yacht's setup.
