The 1987 Grand Banks 42 Classic is a capable fiberglass trawler built to cruise extended distances with comfort and reliability. Twin Caterpillar 3208 diesel engines produce 210 hp each, delivering efficient cruising at 8 to 9.3 knots or higher speeds up to 14 knots when needed. A Sidepower bow thruster with 242 pounds of thrust aids maneuvering, and a Westerbeke 6.5 kW diesel generator supports onboard systems. The boat measures 42 feet overall with a 14-foot beam and carries 300 gallons of fuel and 270 gallons of fresh water for extended voyages.
The accommodation layout includes two cabins and two heads. The main salon features upholstery and mattresses replaced in 2022, along with well-maintained varnish and finishes throughout. Three-zone air conditioning with reverse cycle heat and dual compressors provides climate control. The galley includes a two-burner propane stove, electric toaster oven and air fryer, double stainless steel sink with hot and cold water, and a Grunert cold-plate refrigeration system with front-opening freezer and refrigerator. Two vacuum flush fresh water toilets serve the heads, with a 50-gallon holding tank and a recently installed macerator for overboard discharge.
Electronics and navigation systems include dual Garmin and Simrad chartplotters installed in 2020 and 2018 respectively, digital radar, Airmar side-scan sonar, three VHF radios, a Simrad AP40 autopilot with hydraulic control, and a third independent depth sounder. An electrically operated windlass with 250 feet of galvanized chain and 44-pound stainless anchor is controlled from both helm stations. The engine room shows clean, organized maintenance with recent injector pump rebuilds by Caterpillar in 2022 and cooler service completed in summer 2023. Bottom paint was renewed last winter, and zincs are regularly maintained.
An 8-foot 2-inch Mercury fiberglass RIB tender with a 5 hp four-stroke outboard motor is included with the yacht. Shore power, battery systems, and LED cabin lighting complete the equipment list.
