1987 O'Day 40

The O'Day 40 is a fiberglass coastal cruiser built on the proven Jeanneau Sun Fizz hull form. At 39.58 feet overall with a 12.6-foot beam and 6.3-foot draft, this design balances performance and comfort. The boat sails steadily and predictably, with a displacement hull rating of approximately 111. Power comes from a 46-horsepower Westerbeke diesel engine with a three-blade fixed propeller, providing a cruising speed of 7 knots.

The interior accommodates a small crew with a V-berth forward, a spacious owners cabin in the stern, and one head with shower. Fresh water capacity is 107 gallons, fuel capacity 40 gallons, and the holding tank stores 23 gallons. The cabin includes a Dometic refrigerator-freezer combination, a three-burner propane stove with two 10-gallon tanks, and a 1500-watt inverter for auxiliary power.

Navigation and communication systems have been substantially upgraded in recent years: a Raymarine Axiom 9+ chartplotter paired with wind, speed, and depth instruments, a Standard Horizon GX2400 radio with AIS, and an additional chartplotter at the navigation station powered by a Raspberry Pi. The electrical system features two 4D Lifeline batteries in a new battery box, a new Balmar 80-amp alternator, a 400-watt solar panel with Victron charge controller, and a Sterling ProCharge Ultra battery charger.

The rigging and deck hardware have been refreshed with new Rolly Tasker Ocean cruising main and 135 jib, new running rigging, new exterior canvas including dodger and bimini extension, new EasyJacks and mainsail cover, and new Garhauer boom vang. Dynema lifelines replace the original wire, and all through-hulls were replaced in 2023. Additional systems include a Rule bilge pump, Raritan electric head with new hoses, hot water heater, LED lighting throughout, new engine control panel and wiring, and a new engine water pump. A Lifesling, davits, and 150 feet of chain are aboard. Bottom paint is two years old.
